OnePlus, the Chinese company founded in 2013 known for their flagship killers are pushing out a new one for 2017, the OnePlus 5 skipping number 4 due to the similarity in pronunciation between number four and the word death in Chinese which considered a bad luck. Rumours thankfully were wrong about headphone jack and colors (red and purple versions). The latest flagship offers a premium design, as well as best-in-class specs that surely compete with the top-notch flagships. These enhanced features don’t come without sacrificing the affordable price, as the OnePlus 5 is the most expensive phone released by the company so far. The question is does it worth its price tag?

Design
The OnePlus 5 has the most refined design the company has ever made with a sleek, dark metallic body with rounded corners and edges looks great and comfortable to hold.

The back looks a lot like an iPhone 7 Plus, with the dual cameras and flash in exact same position.

OnePlus has a limited selection of color options compared to other modern handsets out there. If you choose the base model with 64 GB, available only in slate gray. There’s also an expensive model with 128 GB of storage comes in Midnight Black.

Display
OnePlus5 has the exact same 5.5-inch AMOLED touchscreen that was used in the OnePlus 3T apparently with a resolution of 1080×1920 pixel (Full HD) and pixel density of 401-ppi. The color brilliance is increased by sRGB and DCI-P3 profiles supporting wide-gamut color space. OnePlus improves the display settings software with new features such as the Reading Mode and the Auto Night Mode.

Despite only being Full HD instead of QHD display adopted by today’s top flagships, the screen offers vivid colors that are full of contrast and deep blacks and is probably the best 1080p panel and one of the most accurate panels on the market.

Performance
The OnePlus 5 is powered by the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 835 processor and Adreno 540 GPU, and comes in two different versions: one with 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB of UFS 2.1 storage, while the other one with a higher variant has a whopping 128 GB storage and 8 GB. The huge memory makes sure that loaded apps can stay permanently in the RAM without requiring to be reloaded when they are called up again.
We keep in our minds that many of you would like to see the performance quantified. So, OnePlus 5 got itself an impressive score of 1932 on single-core of GeekBench 4.1 virtually same level as the Xiaomi Mi 6 and HTC U11 and a massive 6604 score on multi-core. Camera
OnePlus has made a change to its camera position on the back of the phone. The flagship has two lenses because it’s the trend nowadays. The cameras have been moved to the top left corner to look like an iPhone 7 Plus.

The main sensor is 16 MP standard lens with an aperture of f/1.7 and electronic image stabilization (EIS). The secondary lens is a 20 MP telephoto with a smaller aperture of f/2.6, though this telephoto lens doesn’t offer OIS or EIS, it will give you an optical zoom of 2x without any quality loss and a digital zoom of up to 8x. The main sensor will provide much better results in terms of detail and color accuracy.

Turning to video, the camera is capable of recording 4K video, you can record Slow Motion videos in 720p with 120 fps, as well as Time lapse videos in 720p (HD) or 1080p (Full-HD). Though EIS only works at up to 1080p with 30 fps.

The rear snaper also has a two-color LED flash without laser focus but it uses a manual focus and/or phase detection instead.

For selfie enthusiasts, the front facing sensor is a Sony IMX 371 with 16MP and aperture of f/2.0. The front camera also has the Qualcomm’s EIS and can record videos at 1080p and 30 fps.

Conclusion
The op5 design isn’t anything special and it isn’t waterproof. It is pricier than any previous OP model, but no other phone offers the same specs for the same price.

The base model with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage will cost $479, while the more powerful model with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage will be set for $539. So back to our question is it worth the asking price? Definitely yes. OnePlus has packed into this phone more components than ever before and that makes it totally worth the price.
